Barrett's Home Theater accepted the return, along with the Rotel amp.Unless they are obvious defectives, I hate to return things - especially if they are expensive and the employees operate on commission. I explained why I was returning and the gentleman who helped me graciously refunded the $3450 I laid out for the two pieces. Of course, this is one of the reasons why I chose to pay near retail prices in the first place, rather than buying on-line from some shady dealer in Jersey City.
Now I am back to square one. How do I get good, reliable hdmi switching without sacrificing sound quality vs. my old Denon AVR-5800 and Belles amp and without paying over $5k?
Oh, and without using a video game player as a source component...

If so, you can audition the 5308. I would think the price on that particular unit should be coming down soon. It may very well be worth the wait in your case. Unfortunate reviews and disquieting to hear your testimonial about the Integra. I just read another review in Home Theater magazine whose reviewer noted the same things about its lackluster analog inputs. I hope we're not seeing the start of a trend here among manufacturers regarding their product's analog inputs.
This is what I'm using at the moment. HDMI switching works flawlessly. The switch does very little damage to sound quality.
When someone comes up with a real pre/pro that does HBR decoding AND has a superb analog section, I'll change my setup. Until then, all works well.
Thanks a lot racerguy. I think this is exactly what I need.
Did you have to pay full retail for it though? $599.00 seems a little pricey (for me) as a "temporary" solution.
You can find authorized dealers selling new units for less than retail through eBay.
