You are losing detail, especially with Blu-ray.
If you are seeing sparkles from your BD player only, get a better HDMI cable.

My HDMI cables are short, 2 meter, 1.3b certified and of good quality. They are those "flat" ones where all the conductors are in a single row. They cost about 20 bucks each, but looked so good I got them, assuming they were overkill.
My blu ray player is connected to the HK receiver by an HDMI cable and another HDMI cable connects the HK to the TV.
Sounds like I need to further investigate this.

Really, HDMI cables can make a difference?
Yes, but you don't have to spend a fortune. Most people find the $10 cable from Monoprice to suffice-its usually better than the feebies you get. Sparkles is the classic sign of bad HDMI cables.
Its a bigger issue for long runs.
My personal experience is that they make a difference, giving a somewhat better picture. I prefer Bettercables.com's Silver Serpents, but that's just me.
