What does a 'Smart TV' give you that a 'Smart Blu-Ray' doesn't.....?

I am not much of a Video guy, so sorry for the stupid question.

I see TV's that you can hook to the internet and also Blu-Ray Players. Do they provide the same features as far as the internet goes?

I'm guessing either of those won't get as many updates and bugfixes as the standalone media players. If it won't play rmvb or flv, don't hold your breath waiting for an upgrade.

But, you may find that the "smart TV" steps you up to a higher level of performance in other ways.

There is no consistent difference. The issue to look at is whether you can get the internet TV, internet radio, and media streaming services that you want--every "smart" device has a different list of available services.

Also, you should consider what kind of audio and video quality you want. Most "smart" devices will not get you Netflix movies with 5.1 audio and 1080p video, for example. So I have a "smart" bluray player, and I was using it to watch Netflix streaming movies and occasionally to stream audio files from the PC on my network. But I recently bought a Roku 2 XS in order to get 1080p video and 5.1 audio on Netflix, and I then found out that there are MANY more services available through Roku (often with no monthly costs).
