I had no idea how many documentaries he made! Last night I saw 'Prohibition' which was a federal jobs program for organized crime.

It should be required viewing in all schools.

But I remember being fascinated by his portrayal of life in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

People these days have no clue what life used to be like in this country.

Really hard to pick, but I am partial to the ones on Jazz, the Roosevelts and baseball.
The recent PBS documentary on Reconstruction was just a rehash of The Civil War, told from a black perspective (Henry Louis Gates).
"Vietnam" was monumental, but I wouldn't count it among his best work.

But I found the latter to be depressing. Same goes for Vietnam which brought back many bad memories for me.

I enjoyed the first part of Reconstruction, and am very much looking forward to the second.

Cincinnati bootlegger George Remus said that there were not enough dollars in the money supply to pay every corrupt official who wanted a bribe.

I doubt it's much different today.
