Villefranche is a small village located on the edge of a vast, mysterious forest where things go bump, chatter, and rustle in the night. Like most small English villages, Villefranche has an excessive crime problem that has gotten so out-of-hand that Captain Weiss has been sent a Special Prosecutor to assist in cleaning up the town. Weiss has a history with the mysterious after being kidnapped by an unknown force often referred to as an antlered man-god who rules the forest.

The first season covers the base criminal aspects of Villefranche while the second season slips off into the supernatural. The series is compelling by the fact that it is populated by French rednecks who like to drink and tussle. The leads are interesting and the scenery is beautiful.

I always get hooked with the deep woods and the supernatural. Sixteen epis is a big assignment so I doubt there will be many takers.

I have been using it here and there to plug empty time slots - it is about its level of usefulness.

It simply does not raise to the level of the better works such as the Spiral, for instance, or that Belgian one - its titles escapes me for the moment.
