 I read a book of that name by Douglas Preston which I thought had enough material for a movie, a thriller. A billionaire wants to be buried in a Mayan tomb along with his precious art collection and he wants the three sons to come and get the inheritance from this tomb. A private eye is also in the chase. The Mayan Codex is also in the collection which has enough details of herbal medicines to drive big time drug companies to bankruptcy. A ravishing beauty who is also a chemist wants this Codex and hence joins the chase by falling in love with the youngest son. There are more juicy twists as they reach Honduras. What a movie this would be!

 Douglas Jerome Preston is a prolific writer. He has written many thrillers. The Codex was written in 2004 and his latest is called The Old Bones. He was in charge of publications at the Museum of Natural History, NY before starting full time writing. I am really surprised the Hollywood producers dont care for him.

 by Preston and Child is a pretty good movie, and there was another one about finding a Lost City and Gorillas.
That one was a clunker.
Any number of their combined and individual books would make good movies.

 Everything sounds good except the sons having to go to the tomb for their inheritence.

I can't buy that. Too hokie no matter how big an asshole the dad and/or the kids are.

 There is a lot more. The father was locked up in the tomb before he died by his former partner, the private eye. But the sons found a Mayan who was the son of the father throu his marriage to a Mayan girl!! So now the four sons and the girl come up with great war strategy to get rid of the partner and the father makes a new Will which distributes the valuables among the three sons and the local son gets a visa to the US and inherits the big mansion and land. An ideal plot for a Hollywood thriller with perhaps the big sized actor called Johnson who acted in Baywatch getting the role of the fourth son.
