This is a well filmed feel good story about a Russian school teacher who starts a fencing class for young grade school students ( grades 2,3,4,5). Production qualities are top notch.

I've known several polish people who complained about russian rule. Any country inside the CCCP and outside Russia complained a lot. There were a lot of ongoing jokes about their overlords. One of them was about cucumbers being forced on peoples diets. Classical music on radio stations was emphasised.

Classical music was emphasized by the absence of a modern western music- an Iron Curtain effect. Also , you know, the west was rotten to the core and its exploited masses were being purposefully dumbed down with decadent art & culture to further the exploitation..
After I read Archipelago Gulag and the Children of Arbat my entire world collapsed..☺

By the age of 8 I could vocalize many major classical pieces. Somehow classical resonated in me even at that age.

I would not say it was the predominant music on radio - there was plenty of easy listening too, but classical did indeed have very strong presence.

Unlike, regrettably, here... for all the garbage on radio there is one semi-classical station in our area.

They get little recognition for their input in Enigma code breaking and for extracting and smuggling the machine over to allies.

Some Polish historians begin to question expediency of Polish resistance movements during WWII in breaking German supply lines to Russian front. It had caused immense suffering and repressions of Polish cities and villages and at the end it only strengthened Soviets and resulted in occupation of Poland for next 40 years.
Because USA didn't really suffer much during WWII and acquired it's empire almost cost free.( Some say it's arguably the cheapest and easiest acquirement of imperial status in a history of empires ) war isn't present in the psyche of the nation. In Poland (and Russia ) it is still a hotly debated subject.

10s of millions, both military and civilian. Russia? It's uncountable.

If we'd lost more civilians, if the war had been fought on our soil with the consequent devastation, perhaps the military worship would have been less, the VA support of any and all wars less enthusiastic.
