Having grown up in the 70's (Southern, not Northern California), I felt that the filmmakers captured the look perfectly. The performances were great, and I liked it very much. I especially like Robert Downey's small part. The trouble with the movie is that, as in reality, they never catch the real killer. That makes it a kind of a long slog to get to nowhere. Kind of like real life. The real cop portrayed by Mark Ruffalo just passed away a few weeks ago. He was a self-promoter, and kind of messed up his own reputation. I have a blu-ray, and have watched it several times. Love the era, the sad story and the film. Fincher's one of the best.

The book is excellent and of course the story is sad, and the film captures that to perfection. The Real Zodiac is DON HARDEN

He gives a clue to his identity in the name ZODIAC. The first three letters
are his first name backwards. The Zodiac symbol a cross over the letter O is
also almost his first name DON, Since it contains D and O. The Z in Zodiac
is the other letter N, sideways. Bingo!

The Halloween pumpkin card sent to cops by Zodiac also provides similar clues that Don Harden is the real Zodiac killer. Incidentally it was, uh, Don Harden who solved the only Zodiac cryptogram ever solved. Hel-loo!

The zodiac must be dead by now. I wish that he would have left a letter to be opened after his death. Another thing is that he had to compete with the Manson family trials for fame and got overshadowed.
