Started out well with quick-paced editing that took us across the globe seemingly chasing down terrorists sneaking across the sea, first, then the border. Had the tone of an international thriller until the plot hurricane changed the story back to attacking cartels along the border.

Brolin is called in and told he can get 'dirty' by the oldest-looking set of US officials ever assembled in one space. Modine looked petrified and Brolin looked as if he had aged 20 years. I presume this is some story device to make it look like our border security is run by crusty old white guys. It struck me as out of place.

Del Toro, though repeating his note and tenor, was the bright spot of he film. It seemed to lack that 'human interest' touch without Blunt despite using a young, feisty Cartel Daughter as a pawn.

Yes, action plus. Same actors, same script. This could have been a really good thriller if they had pursued the original opening story line. Will the Next Generation emerge? Could be.

3 outta 5 wonks of action and entertainment (guy style)
3 wanks for not making the story larger and wider like the opening

I really liked the first one. I was disappointed to see a syndicated review in my local newspaper giving Dos only one and one half stars. The first one had a tension to it that remained throughout.

The plan was steadily revealed to the end. We didn't know Benny's identity or role until it was nearly completed, building up to it. The director kept us focused on and identified with Blunt, the clueless fall gal.

I haven't seen this one, but the secret is out of the bag at the start -- we go in knowing who he is. No more secret motive, so the impact of this film would have to be generated some other way. Benny is a tour de force; one of the best.

No surprise there.

That character has a tense past that can be explored deeply and
Del Toro has the superb talent to do so... correctly.

How the writer(s) work a good story and plot around that is almost
secondary, though they did it mighty right the first time.

Re-watched Sicario recently and it was easily as satisfying as the first viewing.

The difference in the two Sicario's...- is Denis Villenueve, versus Stefano Sollima.

I picked up my 4K UHD yesterday and watched this film last night. Really well acted and crafted film. Had very good tension, plot line not quite as coherent and good as the 1st film but still very enjoyable. Now we are setup for Sicario 3. I would like to see Denis Villeneuve direct the 3rd one.
