I call BS.

The guy was talented and inventive, if he would have wanted to make this film, he would have figured a way , just like every other director who hits snags but still brings in product.

I feel he used his considerable yank to play genius move guy, screw around, and sell a vision that never saw completion , while he got to play king of the movies . It seems more like an enabling device to go drinking and spend money being important , than a serious work .

In reading the net flick link, it is honest enough to say it was edited without wells and material was added. I once had a french car that had ford spelled out in chrome across the back, just to screw with folks who had never seen a car like that before. Didn't make it a ford.

My understanding is Orson spent many years seeking out financing and hundreds of hours editing the footage he had - but my hopes aren't up for anything outstanding in the context of a Orson Welles film.

But I don't love everything he did. I never understood the acclaim F is for Fake enjoyed.

The real heartbreaker is the altered ending grafted on to Magnificent Ambersons due to studio meddling. It's a great film despite the ending and could have been a masterpiece if Orson had full control. The original ending footage is lost.

Have a great day

I just revisited my comments, that is a heck of a lot of opinions about a film I have never seen and a man I have never met.

I have nothing against WElls and whatever life choices he might have made.

I still hold the same opinions, just felt I should point out they have no factual basis , but I guess everyone already knew that, this is the internet, after all.

I was also influenced by all the income generated more by fame than product after an artist dies, like Hendrix has more albums out after death than he put out while alive.

To develop my light weight opinion, I went by a director speaking to an audience, saying "you never make the picture you want to make, you make the picture they let you make " Perhaps it was different for Wells.

And I had also just seen a screening of "the stuntman" a really good film that revolves around peter otool as the genius director who runs everything as a cock of the walk. Perhaps the recommendation of this movie will help me from just being considered a big mouth .It is fun to spout off but I enjoy reason a little more.

Another influence was the book" white hunter, black heart". A book about john houston screwing around making, I think, the african queen movie, a device he used plus power and privilege to kill an elephant, his primary interest in going to africa. The guy was so evil and outrageous, they wrote a book about it. A movie was made off the book, but I didn't see it.

I sure readers can think of other examples of guys that enjoy ego a whole lot.
