Mostly interested in foreign movies, but not exclusively.

I started watching already shaking in my boots.

I get tortured enough here.
I don't like looking at torture, and the whole scene seemed moving in that direction, so I was ready, but then it, fortunately, resolved.

I don't know if films by Aki Kaurismäki are streaming on Criterion (I don't subscribe), but Criterion did issue a bunch of his films on disc. They are totally quirky and unique.
Ditto Jacques Tati. I have the Criterion BluRay box of Tati movies, and I've watched them repeatedly. There is always something new to see!
And I agree on both counts. We have probably seen every Kaurismaki's films, and many of Tati's.
My favorite Tati is My Uncle. Hilarious. :)

La Piscine if you haven't seen it. Delon died literally the day after I watched it.
We have seen it long ago, but long enough so the vague memories did not interfere.
Any other good catches?

Spirit of the Beehive; Simon of the Desert; Viridiana.
Elisa, vida mia.
Hard to watch in spots, but incredibly good.
Leaving the Spanish cinema for now... to avoid creating the sense of overdoing something.

Another 100% on Rotten Tomatoes

We used to love Bunuel, but it would be interesting to revisit him now, to see if our reaction today would be different. After all... WE are so different today than we were 30-40 years ago.
Thank you for your recommendations!

Bunuel is fascinating. As you suggest his films can resonate depending on one's life experience. Viridiana is my wife's favorite film. We recommended it to friends years ago and they didn't get it.
We both remembered it to large degree, but it was still nice.
We used to love Bunuel a lot and watched pretty much everything he made, including the An Andalusian Dog. One of my all time favorites has been The Exterminating Angel.

thumbs up from me.
fwiw I watched Ikiru yesterday and it was not as sad as I remember (20 years ago) watching it. It was quite uplifting in the last 30 min. or so.
It is another gem (of course)
Maybe I was too young for it. :) Maybe if I was 80yo when I saw it the effect would be different. :) I just dunno...Maybe it is the time I should try again. ;)

favorite scenes of Kurosawa's. It was enlightening to see them wake up to what happened. Even his dimwitted son eventually got it.
I hope my words make sense and you enjoy it if you do decide to watch.
Fascinating... beautiful and poetic.

I'll put this on my list!
Some movies are OK to stop and start, this one should not be, in my view.

Thanks! I will.
