Follow Ups:
See it for the effects - they are still nice. Take a pee break when they start talking - I've heard hardcore bar alcoholics make more sense with regards to philosophy!

I thought the first was OK. The second was hard to watch. The kids want to see the third but I will hold out for a video rental. Was was that party/love scene all about in II? Guy stands up to say we are all going to die, so lets partay?
And Trinity with Neo have about as much chemistry as ice.
And that stupid kid . . oh, not worth the time.
... what I call the "golden calf" scene seemed to be the clueless producers pandering to what they perceived as their chief demographic. The condescension seemed to be a cheap theatrical ploy IMHO as fill as so much of what comprised the haphazard plot. All the slick fashioned smartly tailored direction renown in the original was gone. Maybe if they threw out the crap they could've made one sequel. Maybe.

targeted for older people that fell short, not for stuff targeted for them. Think StarTrek TNG.I like that "golden calf scene".
I'm gonna see it tomorrow - the two reviews I've seen wasn't enthusiastic. But I'll just watch it for the sake of the effects - the plot sorta got lost already in #2 anyway.

Keanu speaks more than in any of the other two episodes. The dialogue is beyond laughable. I don't know how the actors keep a straight face when saying them. The CGI is there--but is not impressive. And, there just wasn't enough of Mr. Smith.Carrie looks like a crackhead and shares a scene of intimate feelings with Keanu which is totally out of place for the entire series--let me outta here!

... the backdoors were more than a gimmick at lame attempt to be clever. It was so excruciating that I began rooting against Neo. I was hoping his (Bill & Ted) adventure was a subprogram matrix to house rebels.

I might be confused and you are not talking about Zhivago the movie, but if you are, inspite of its rather ridiculous Hollywood nature, it has some true touches about the post-revolution life in Russia.

By Doctor Zhivago Syndrome I mean that when Pasternak's novel came out in Italy in the late 50s, I believe, there were demonstrations of people holding posters and generally maligning the book. But noone had read it. It was banned. So I was hinting to that. We all have a little prejudice in us.
I liked the 1st Matrix. It was excellent and dynamic. And a pretty good sci-fi flick too.

At any rate, it is completely incorrect to suggest that one must watch the whole movie to know what it is.

I think you're relying on commercial snippets. You'd never rent it.:)
Anyhow, Matrix 1 is not a bad film.
Perhaps better than not bad.

What I saw bored me to death.I can and have watched many bad films - I am good at finding fun elements in many of them. That one was such a nothing I simply forgot and moved on.
I will take the Commando any day over it. Or any (OK, almost any) of Stalone or Bronson films.
BTW - I can't recall the instance when the commercial clips provided a wrong impression. Maybe there ARE such cases, but I can't recall any.

You saw the first one, right? And I bet you saw the second one...riiight?
Then you're gonna see the third one. Face facts. No--no Mart, don't argue, it's gonna happen. Accept it.
On the other hand, if you haven't seen 1 and/or 2, you're not gonna see it.
I've heard what, in fact, makes sense to hear about it: the plot is laughable, the graphics are mindblowing. Personally I think it's a shame they botched it so badly...but then again, the first one wasn't really so hot in the dialogue dept. either. It's just been easy to romanticize in light of the eye-roller that the second one turned out to be. Too bad. They had a good idea and could've done more with it, but it sounds like they stalled at the idea of Agent Smith as the ultimate villain, which is so lame.
But, anyway, I'm not going to lie, I'm gonna see the thing this weekend. For the sake of closure. I will ooh and aah at the effects, which cost more to make than everyone on this board combined will make in their entire lifetimes. Then, that's it, I'm done with Hollywood blockbusters.
Until, uh, the third Lord of the Rings comes out, I mean.

I saw the first one, thought it was pretty cool, probably not as earthshaking as many other people thought...but then of course I saw the 2nd and it was a waste of my time, and I couldn't care less about the 3rd. I doubt I'll ever see it.

I saw the first ( was quite good like Star wars but for the 2000´s)..I will NOT see the third part..AND I did had a look at the second .
