Not a lot of talking or discussion while exiting the theater. I think we all felt sadness over Christopher McCandless' fate. No happy Hollywood "feel good" ending anywhere in site.
I'm sure you are aware that Sean Penn had to agree to work closely with the McCandless family so that the portrait presented here was a reasonable facsimile of the true story.
Hal Holbrook deserves an oscar nomination for best supporting actor for his work this film.
Highly recommended and beautifully filmed.

I read the book years ago and read it again just before the film came out. I believe it helped me not have to "think" at all about the story and just ride the emotional wave of the portrayal.
I will defintely see it again.

Our local book discussion group read the book last year and all look forward to seeing the movie when it opens here on Cape Cod.
