I have never bought this film on DVD, as this has been promised for sooooo long.
I remember queuing to buy a ticket with my best friend as a 15 year old. Thoroughly enjoyed it then, it's now even better.
On the whole the film is just tidied up, and the Noir commentary removed.
In some ways the film seems even more visionary: the disappearance of English; the scarcity of 'real' animals; genetic engineering - but this combines with: a pervasive presence of smoking; genetic engineers working in freezers with end products - such as eyes.
The new additions are, in the main, fairly subtle, such as the Dove flying into a landscape in keeping with where Rudger is dying! Of course the Unicorn sequence is not, but it makes the origami Unicorn at the end profound!
...and the ridiculous ending has been chopped.
If only Ridley had looked after the Star Wars update!
