Ebert's choices, but I still respect his opinion, and certainly wish him the best in his fight against cancer.
"Before the Devil Knows You're Dead"--perhaps one of the year's ten best, but neither my wife or I enjoyed it one bit. Perhaps a little too dark, but disgust and killing don't normally turn me off. I think Hoffman, a fine actor, is on the road to "overexposure," already well traveled by Samuel Jackson and Nicolas Cage.
The only other movie I wish to comment on is "The Kite Runner." A fascinating movie and, as one movie reviewer suggested, it was a shame that the story had to move on and leave the child actors, who were superb. As the movie progressed, it turned out a little too coincidental and manipulative for my tastes. And please tell me (spoiler forthcoming), in one of the final scenes, where did that kid find the slingshot? No doubt a Taliban issue for all males in a madrasah?
