Picked this up for 2 bucks as a laser disc; a stellar Cast works with a bare-bones script + make a very special film
The Director, Mamet, must have had lion-taming skills to haul in all the egos in this project+ make it work! All credit to him; it does
I typically can't *stand* Al Pacino, I am luke warm about any of the Baldwin boys and Kevin Spacey can be hit-and-miss; but everyone pulls their weight in this film ( I'd go out on a limb and say these actors give the performance of their lives; amazingly, no-one seems to upstage anyone else )
A Classic; I'd forgotten just how good this is!

Never a more ruthless shark on film. So few moments, such great impact.

Complicit Constapo Talibangelical since MMIII
Word is that if Arkin got one word, grunt or noise wrong it was back for another take, he is brilliant in this and works very nicely off of the other players.
I've always thought GG/GR was a bit of a high point for just about all the actors in it.

You missed AA giving a workshop in timing and side man stylism.

I can recite this entre film pretty much from memory and I recall each expression and the delivery of each line better than you, I'm sure. By the way, you appear kind of nuts when you get emotionally distraught about someone accurately describing a sideman's role in a film. Arkin is good, but he had a small part in the film.

Not surprising.

Each played a much bigger role in the story. If there was any character who could have been excised without changing the entire scope of the film, it was George. All he did was go out for donuts with Dave who tried to manipulate him into robbing the office, whine that "they're gonna bounce me out of a job" and lament that he was under suspicion for the robbery. If you could watch this film and come away thinking Arkin stole the show, you surely have rocks in your head. As I said before, the relationship between Shelley and Ricky are the key to this story.
More relevant to your whining, we have a certain duilawyer claiming the movie sucks. You didn't even reply to that. Instead, you're getting on my case, telling me I don't understand it even though I've studied it time and time again, am more familiar with it than you are, and count it among my favorites. Obviously you don't really care about Arkin's role in this nor are you interested in extolling the virtues of it, as you would have replied directly to the lawyer who claims it sucks. You just saw an opportunity to lash out at me since you hold a grudge from another forum, and now you're making an ass of yourself on both forums. Enjoy.

Hello,
Did you get my email???

Do you know what it takes to sell real estate?

I found the relationship between the Ricky and Shelley characters the key to the story. It was a Mamet play before he adapted it for the screen, thus the minimalist sets. I loved the music, too. The dialogue was great, even though I'm not the biggest Mamet fan. It was one of Pacino's last good performances before he became a caricature of himself and jumbled all his roles into one hideous technique he couldn't control.

Like a black hole caving in on itself.
There's no satire or humor in his performance, but he is funny!
It's bare-bones Lemmon.

And salesmen. But Mamet is ALWAYS The kiss of death for me, "too clever by half".
...although it's pretty far from legit business.
It's supposed to make us squirm, so a double bill of this and Boiler Room would probably send you over the edge, no?
I love this one, House of Games, Winslow Boy. Saw GGR on stage in CHicago back in the day and it was very powerful live.
in the late 1960's and got his idea for his play from his experiences there
Hope your Office is *nothing* like the "Glengarry" one ( ! )Grins
