this needlessly convoluted nonsense reeks. Pacino is good, he's almost always good (Scent of a... ) Starts off with a plane that looks like the same opening shot from Insomnia, another good Pacino performance hampered by crappy acting surrounding him.
Geez this thing needed some rewrites. Imagine trying to make each character the prime suspect for 30 seconds.
Crap. Absolute crap. And I saw the version with the opening deleted with the two Asian sisters and one gets killed. So when one brings cookies to him it has no emotional impact, cookies for dead sister. They are all afraid to eat them, could be poisoned, that part of the plot goes NOWHERE.
Watch Cracker, Episode I instead with the train. Watch the camera shot from the approaching train, unbelievable. Christopher Eccleston is awesome. Now theres a psychologist whose life is out of control solving murders.
2 stars out of five.
Follow Ups:
Sobieski and Witt don't do worth a crap and I was pissed that Brenneman just had to be PC 'gay'. I don't figure why chicks like Sobieski and Jojovich get parts as both are hampered by lack of thespian skills and their looks are going fast. Even Portman can out act those two!
Basically, everybody showed up and did their stock character renditions (Forsythe, ie). I wonder if there was a director involved?
no talent for acting.
.
you an edge in casting. I think her resemblance to younger dikeier (sorry if that is an offensive term, but I can't think of a better term..) Jodie Foster is THE ONLY thing she has going for her, if we are talking about the villainess. No looks, no acting...
I think Leelee Sobieski is a fox. Nice eyes and high cheek bones plus she is tall. I still will not see 88 minutes as it is the worst reviewed movie of the year.
.
I usually check the "tomatometer" reading at www.rottentomatoes.com before spending my money.
In the case of 88 Minutes, there are 5 "fresh" reviews (recommending the movie) versus 81 "rotten" reviews, yielding a tomatometer reading of 6%:
In such a lopsided situation, the tomatometer reading is highly reliable.
nice of you not to criticize me for it. :-)
article I found this morning (hope I can refind and post here) about Deniro and Pacino are now taking movies just for the dough, and their reputations have gone to shite for it.
They are teaming for another movie, their second time ("Heat", since they did not play together in Godfather)). I bet the new movie will not have any scenes as classic as the "Heat" scene in Kate Mantallini's (sp?) coffee shop.
"There's two sides to that coin"
at the link below.
Good line: "Nothing wrong with a little shooting, as long as the right people get shot."
I really like these actors better work (long time no see), so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we might luck out and get a fairly entertaining movie. I'll be sure to check the tomatometer.
.
Chuckle...I really enjoyed that.
better acting, better everything. Except, the women are better looking in 88.
