The great dancer of late 40s and 50s MGM musicals has passed. She was a good partner for Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire and one of the screens truly beautiful presences - a magnificently gorgeous woman.
She starred in, among other films:
SINGIN' IN THE RAIN
THE BAND WAGON
SILK STOCKINGS
BRIGADOON
She was supposed to co-star in AN AMERICAN IN PARIS but had to bow out due to being pregnant. The role went to a newcomer named Leslie Caron.
CYD CHARISSE was married to Tony Martin for 58 years.
She will be missed.
Follow Ups:
Gorgeous, classy lady and wonderful dancer. Owner of many unforgettable screen moments.I will miss her, but her shadow dances forever in her films.
Soon we all will be shadows...
Have you seen the Huston last opus, " The Dead "?
