Some great tunes, and very clear sound, but three big beefs. The interruptions of the concert with archival interviews. Talk about a loss of momentum. And these guys could be no less interesting to listen to, they are empty headed self-absorbed druggies.
Keith has a good sense of humor. BUT THE REAL gripe with the movie is 2 bits of direction (1) All the hot babes packed into the front of the stage. This is obviously for the sake of th movie, as there are no ugly ones, no black ones, and no guys (2) "selective mixing" way overdone, so when the camera hits Keith, his guitar is boosted in volume to a very annoying level, drowning out the other players, and the minute the shot moves to Mick, the guitar is unceremoniously dropped in volume to nearly inaudible,. Very disorienting.
Noticeable over dubs, where you her Keith cutting loose and see his hands aren't moving, Keith and Mick's voices sound better than ever. Jagger can longer hit the high notes, i.e. on Jumping Jack Flash...
Follow Ups:
Dude, it's the Stones. Sing the fucking lyrics.
As to Christina...she wouldn't let Mick "spend some time together" unless she got to sing.
(Old Ed Sullivan joke.)
I hear Christina subsequently had Mick's baby.
Subtract another star from the rating for the decision to include Christine Aguilera as special guest. CHRISTINE AGUILERA with the STONES???!!!
...than us Baby Boomers.
She CAN sing...
Possibly, but people (including Gen-X/Y/Z'ers) listen to the Stones because they're The Stones, the Beatles because they're The Beatles, etc. Cramming classic rockers together with slut-chic pop singers like Cristina or Britney may sell a few more tickets but won't win the Stones any more fans ("Golly, can you believe how old those guys were?" "And that last song didn't make any sense: 'Goodbye rudely newsday'???!!!").
.
No matter how great the footage or audio track, there is only so much excitement a bunch of 60+ year old rockers can generate. In a way it's great that the Stones still get out there and give it a go. But, I'd still rather watch Gimme Shelter or Ladies and Gentlemen.... It's unfortunate that Marty made this movie 35 years too late.
BTW since the time that Jagger starting playing guitar live with band his sound has been nearly inaudible.
-------------Call it, friendo.
