You won't get much more but it's not a BAD movie just one you've seen countless times before.
I enjoyed it very much because there are many, many individual and joint scenes where we just get to see these guys talk. Not histrionics but just calm, dispassionate "acting."
I'll admit to being a passionate fan of both so it was very entertaining and interesting for me to contrast the two acting styles. It also is apparent both, as they've aged, have learned to distill the essence of their techniques down to the minimum wherein they seem like they're conversing, not reciting lines.
The plot?
It's something about a serial killer that must have seen "Death Wish" a few times too many (or "Se7en") and kills miscreants that the law cannot bring to justice; this Avenger appears to know things which only a cop would so eventually the attention of investigators turns to the investigative team of DeNiro and Pacino's characters who are the lead detectives.
Follow Ups:
will show you "what else" you need for a Cast ( ! ) LOL!!Not a fair call; because GG/GR has about the best cast ever...
The scene in the cafe where DeNiro + Pacino meet in "Heat" is faked, apparently
Grins
I have a copy and I know that there were rumors of professional jealousy and they wouldn't be in the same scene together but there is a shot over DeNiro's shoulder at Pacino that is not faked.
of them are together, playing off each other. "Heat" by far is the superior film but this one is more interesting for those who like seeing great actors, together.
Awful direction, production design, script, cinematography and, too much of the time, acting... otherwise it was pretty decent.
It's actually a testament to the talent/power of the leads that even though so many elements were so bad and they've become such caricatures of themselves (and are prone to mailing it in -- especially Pacino) it turned out to be reasonably watchable.
There were two other people in the theater when I saw it. Both left about halfway through.
"I looked the man in the eye. I found him to be very straightforward and trustworthy….I was able to get a sense of his soul." -- George W. Bush on Vladimir Putin
in a laid back performance (to his standards).
I agree with all your criticisms about technical production values.
15-20 in the theater for "my" showing.
No one left.
No one applauded, either.
