I saw this at a second-run theater this weekend. I knew the book on which it is based is famous, but didn't know the story.
This is a well acted movie. It begins as a version of Brokeback Mountain set in the 1930s, but without saying more, the plot takes a 180-degree turn in the middle.
All in all, I recommend.
Follow Ups:
I watched the BBC series several times and read the book. The BBC production was almost word for word Waugh. How they came up with this lip-smacking version is beyond me.

And you missed the last half of the film, where the plot and what you thought you knew based on the first half turns 180 degrees.

...that we fondly remember the sumptuous, multi-part BBC adaptaion from back when with Jeremy Irons, Anthony Edwards and a steallar British cast. It was quite something, so this new film feels like Evelyn Waugh lite to us.
