...Brad Pitt stars as man who ages backwards in one of the more interesting films of the year.It is very well done and Cate Blanchett is excellent as Daisy, his love interest.
The film reminds of me of Forrest Gump, as it shares the writer, because the film is presented in narrarated vingettes and the main character seems a little slow - he doesn't say much but listens a lot - as it extends over his life.
I'd give it a B.

THE best working actress in Hollywood today....this film will surely be a contender for Oscar...especially for Roth, Blanchett and Finscher....oh...and makeup.....which was incredible! I really enjoyed it! I did a little research on the Fitzgerald short story and the plotline for the movie is NOTHING like the short story....other than the idea of the plot! Gatsby is my absolute favorite novel....it is a real shame they botched the film version of the book with Redford.......though I did like Farrow as Daisy...
Technically brilliant, yes. So why was I bored? My grade would be C to C-.
I haven't seen it myself, but, I got this spoiler from a friend:
At the end of the movie, when he has aged into infancy, he is adopted by Angelina Jolie.

cared about the characters. Best American film I've seen so far this year.
Pitt, with his very amusing turn in the Coen brothers film and with his quiet but strong "Jesse James" performance shows he ain't no Keanu. I think his good looks are his cross to bear.

put ol' Brad in their class.
Actually, his character was supposed to be a wooden dullard with amazing physical strength and prowess. As such, though it doesn't make for a particularly interesting character, Pitt portrayed him well. Have you seen him in Jesse? Or the Coen film? Or the Guy Ritchie one? He is a good character actor, as well as being able to carry a film.

But he did it better.

You give it a "B"
I think this could be the best picture Oscar winner.
It's overall a better movie than Forest Gump.
...Frost/Nixon was a much better film this year.
See my post below.
And I haven't seen Revolutionary Road, Doubt and a few other contenders.
a very good movie, but not a great movie. And a little too looooong as well.
The cinematography was fantastic, and the aging backwards was well done. Blanchett was in fine form. I do like Brad as an actor, but his character was kind of blank . . . boring, if you will. This was a short story fleshed out into a 2 hour and 40 minute movie. They could have/should have done so much more with Benjamin's character, but they didn't. Of course, YMMV.
