Kim comes home from rehab to be in her sisters wedding. There was a tragedy in the past and unresolved issues among family members that are voiced during various parts of the weekend.
This was a pretty good effort, more about music and mood/atmosphere than human emotions, fairly lightweight and fun. Certainly not near as good as After the Wedding which was riveting drama. This seemed like it was too improvised and random to carry much weight. I do not like the hand held camera in movies but it was not too bad in this film, just a minor distraction and at times I felt like I was part of the wedding party so, overall, I give this a medium recommendation.
thanks

the top writing (or ad-libbing, as it appeared) and acting. A more "realistic" acting style is necessary for the Scandinavian method to be successful. Everyone in crisis mode every scene and Anne repeating the same behaviors long after anyone not in a film would put up with it (because she's a famous actress portraying a junkie?) sank this one faster than you can say, "Iceberg!" I also found the endless musician stuff boring, overdone. I wish Belushi would have appeared to smash their instruments after the second or so appearance.
...and walked out before it was over - said it was the ultimate chick flick.
That's what you'd call a fun weekend? Good heavens...
Excellent ensemble cast.
a heavy movie but did not find it so. I wanted to let the everyone know this movie has more to it than all the advertised fights.
There were some annoying parts, but to me it was more interesting because of the variety of people (including the musicians) and also to view the wedding weekend they had planned (remember the elephant cake?) even though there were so many problems.
thanks

phonily for me that I couldn't enjoy it. Maybe I've seen to many foreign films or something? It just seemed like a tv sitcom extended episode with better production values. I'm a Hathaway fan, too. I thought her sis was gorgeous, as well, though I noticed the director was careful to keep her huge nose from being side-filmed.
and the movies they mass produce. For this reason I often prefer foreign films myself. I rented RGM because of the good reviews (and Anne Hathaway) and just hoped it would be enjoyable. I liked it because of the reasons I mentioned and was not surprised to find an average story with average writing but was surprised that the wedding party held some interest for me and wanted to share that fact in this forum because, I expect, most would not watch it otherwise.
For me this forum is more about recommendations and less about debating film merit. I am fully aware a lot of you do not share my views but will post them because there may be some who want to see a movie for the same reasons I do.
FWIW I embrace the fact that we all have opinions and voice them freely and have learned much from yourself Tin, and others who take the time to share.

apologize if I've offended you. I am very opinionated, sure, but all I say applies only to me. I like debating, too, but I try not to be offensive. I really do.
You're one of the guys who make this place fun to visit. Post more!
=8^)
My comments were not directed towards anyone in particular.
And to be perfectly clear both Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Rachel Getting Married are marginal recommendations where I choose to overlook their faults and enjoy myself.
Then again if I had the choice to see only one more viewing of Citizen Kane or Blazing Saddles I would have to think long and hard to decide. I am that dedicated to (admitedly mindless) fun as well as a quality cinema experience.
here's to good friends tonight is kind of special... tra la la
thanks
Phil
I did enjoy it, despite the unpleasant characters, mostly because of the ensemble cast and feeling of being at a weekend/wedding that was quite nice
