Is it the pinnacle of film making? No. But it is worth seeking out and watching.
Having the answers to the questions available because of his life experiences gives a look at the humanity within Jamal and every human being, regardless of circumstances, position or caste, you seem to have missed this silent/non overt commentary on the caste system contained within this film.
By the way, the game show part of the plot not only examines the precarious existence of many in the so called 'Third World' but also the random nature of existence for all of us to some degree.
Oh and Muslim/Hindu violence is a huge problem in India as is the caste system, to point to one or the other and declare it "the real problem" is simplistic at best.

How many people in India can define their life experiences by the questions on a western game show? Zero. The idea is idiotic. How it ever got made into a book, let alone a movie, let alone an oscar winner is a travesty.
"Silent/non overt commentary on the caste system"? That's the stupidest analysis I've ever heard.
As for the problem with Muslim/Hindu violence, the problem is not Hindus. I've traveled extensively in the third world, including Nepal. The 85% Hindu majority there get along swimmingly with the 15% Buddhist minority. So let's not pretend. We know damn well why India has had nonstop violence since the advent of Islam, culminating in the split of Pakistan which then fought three wars against India, losing them all, and resorting to terrorism. Most recently an attack in Mumbai, turning its biggest hotels into infernal bloodbaths. Tell me when the brits intend to make an honest movie about what really goes on in Mumbai. It's not a fucking game show. And when young muslims go out in a blaze of suicidal insanity screaming "God is great" it's not for redemption, it's for terrorism. Everything about this movie was disgusting.

subject.
You ever hear the saying "It takes two to tango"? That describes the Muslim/Hindu relationship in India quite nicely, pinning the blame on one or the other group is a recipe for continuing the current strife in India and is the sign of an uninformed (or deeply biased) observer.
As I have noted a couple of times on the Outside I've been to India twice and I would never try to translate that experience to Nepal because it just doesn't wash.
"That's the stupidest analysis I've ever heard" Actually I would say that perfectly describes your take on 'The Dark Knight'...but seriously perhaps the next time someone makes a film like Slumdog they will telegraph every little thing and that way perhaps you will enjoy (understand) it more.
