"A Prophet:" a captivating,

adrenaline rush of a film with performances to rival the best in any films of the past decade.
A young Arab with a criminal past is thrust into a French prison ruled by the older, cold-blooded psychopath who is a Corsican crime boss. Almost immediately, he is forced to choose between death and murder.
The plot of this film is not unlike that of the much earlier De Palma study, "Scarface." In this film, however, the pace is far steadier with much time devoted to not only the principal character but to various of his cohorts and nemeses.
Because of the modern-day tensions between Europeans and Muslims--- which is magnified in the pressure cooker of prison--- this film has an added level of meaning and pertinence. But it is not a social study, by any means: the drama grips you from the first minutes and doesn't let go. This is powerful, intelligent work which, unfortunately, one searches for in vain in today's Hollywood.

Totally agree. An awesome movie.

Mesmerizing. When I first saw the previews, I knew that this movie "had it" and that I had to see it.

  Pfeiffer is as endowed as your darling Audrey....
  And I found De Palma's film immensely entertaining as a gangster film should be. Coppola's seriousness was bullshit, elevating scum to executives.

I saved it on Netflix - btw some good recommendations of late however fell asleep watching the "Wild Strawberries"
