Hollywood is remaking "Let The Right One In", to be called "Let Me In".
Why in God's name do they do it? The original was exquisitely perfect. It had subtlety and nuance, something Hollywood does not know the meaning of.
The remake is just going to have things exploding every five minutes. There will probably be a love interest involving Gwyneth Paltrow/Drew Barrymore/Jennifer Lopez/some other cheap skanky ho. There will probably also be a Compulsory Black Man doing Will Smith gags. Will there be Arnold Schwarzenegger one-liners? CGI will reign supreme.
I *guarantee* they will fuck up the ending (the bit in the swimming pool), which was one of the best movie endings ever. They will no doubt use industrial quantities of pig's blood to get the point across that it's a horror movie.
Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhh.......
Follow Ups:
Wow, looks almost like a scene by scene copy. The movie could be OK. I love the actress, Chloe Moretz, did a bang up job in Kick-Ass.

.
I mean - besides the image quality.

"Vampyr?" "Dr. Caligari?" "Nosferatu?"
If you strongly dislike the genre, then you'd best skip this one. But it is a fine film.
BTW, any opinions on the two Russian films I earlier mention?
I haven't seen those Russian films, sorry!

lurid.
Different movie. Unsettling. A nice look at common life in Sweden. A fresh look at a vampire's plight. Makes one think to understand it. Please see it.

and pretty much an unknown group of actors with the exception of Richard Jenkins (not terribly known and not a surefire Holllywood commodity by any means).
Agreed that the remake is unnecesary as the original was near perfect.
We are lucky we didn't get Brad Pitt as the boy and Angelina Jolie as the vampire girl.
Directed by M. Night Shyamalan!
Now that would be terrifying!

Kirsten Dunst was 11 when she played her but in the book she was 5.

Now tell me why they didn't get a real five year old to play that role?

this could result in a greater audience for the original film (on DVD) over time. This happened with The Ring (Ringu) and others in the recent past. Perhaps more folks will begin to value searching out the original versions, even if they have to read the dialog (gasp!).
That said - I'd prefer the money be spent on an original idea (assuming it's something better than another talking dog & cat movie.....).

Now that they've plundered American pop-culture and made every TV show and video game into a big-screen schlockfest, they're moving on to trashing all the foreign cinema they can get their hands on... Well, to be fair, they've been at it for a while now.
It's a sad state of affairs.

So, there!!
...this project has an A list director and Daniel Craig.
The key will be the casting of Lisbeth...and the script, of course. But the remake will stand or fall on Lisbeth.
will forget about the actual characters.
