Oh, boy... just what I needed... an Arab guy kicks some Jewish ass, and my sympathy is on his side... But forget that ass kicking (actually a good punch in the face), the guy is all-around sweetheart, outright sympathetic, kind, caring, soft-spoken and handsome.
There is one little problem - he has a bomb strapped to his body and he is supposed to press the button in the middle of a thick Israeli crowd.
Will he? Will that cute Jewish girl leave her orthodox family and go away with him? Will IDF finally admit to brutality against its own soldiers?
Questions... but you will not find the answers here. You will need to rent "For My Father" to find them.
Truth is - I don't know the answers, as I had to stop the film half-way through... but I could tell you tomorrow... if you eat your broccoli.

I don't think you will regret it.

... of "For My Father", I wonder if you might find "Rendition" (2007) similarly involving if yet manipulative? I felt "Rendition" forthright and satisfying, and that its ending hit pay dirt.
I'll keep a look out for "For My Father" - thanks.
They don't have it on Netflix stream, though... :(

It was getting late, so we stopped, but I am looking forward to finishing it.
I like it, but there is definitely some manipulation in trying to draw some parallels when the situation is oblique. I guess by showing nasty Jewish relative the director tried to tell us both of those people have some issues behind them. That is cool... but one should not lose the sense of proportion. In case of the Jewish girl there is danger of being denounced by her family. The palestinian is being told his father will be killed if he doesn't complete his mission. Hardly the same thing.
So far I chalk that as rather innocent game... as the film is humanist and thought-provoking - although I wish it was a bit more subtle.
There are some wonderful characters, very well played.

beloved Sansui 9090B receiver but it only has 3 outputs: "the Kid's" VCR, the CDP, and the Blu-ray use them. None left for Comcast! So I'm figuring out a switch....
