Symbolic Visionary masterwork or nicely filmed gratuitous shocker?

Certainly had me scratching my head. Is it saying Women are bad? Is it saying Evil is real? In the end I saw it as a well shot horror film. Graphic probing some extreme situational possibilities but despite the obvious homage shots to David Lynch I did not find myself provoked to endeavor answering any Mysteries.

Did I miss the invitation? I know as an American I've been Dumbed Down substantially so maybe the Image eludes my sight. If its just a sort of Adult updated re-telling in amalgamation of some old folk tales that's fine for what it is.

I did not find the controversial "sex" scenes as controversial but that's not surprising in light of what lies a few mouse clicks away from here in all its high definition splendor.. maybe he just wanted to out-do "Hard Candy"?
