I have not posted here before, so long time listener, first time caller so bear with me please.
First as a child of the 70's, I really dig,
(70's slang), these type of movies. But this one is so over the top, I wanted to share about.
Casting was brillant, you get the Robert Rodriguez regulars; Danny Trejo, Cheech Martin and Gilbert Trejo; but then it gets really interesting by just adding more cheese....
Steven Segal: Mexican Drug Lord with a Samurai sword
Don Johnson: Redneck border vigilante
Jessica Alba: can't act but easy on the eyes as most imagration agents are, I am pretty sure about that
Jeff Fahey: Lawnmower Man gone Mexican
Michelle Rodriguez: Bad ass Latino Chick, there's a stretch
Robert DeNiro: Raging Bored, but having fun
Lindsay Lohan: (my personal favorite) Drug using, rich whore with a website. Then wrap her up in a Nuns Habit after the majority of her scenes she is naked.
Yes, the blood and gore are way over done to the point of comic torture, Kill Bill like. Still entertaining if that stuff does not bother you.
Highlights for me:
Opening rescue scene the girl being rescued, (naked of course), pulls a cell phone out of her cooch.
Intestines being used as a zip line
Lindsay Lohan being picked up by her Father at a Meth Lab
The idea of an electric border fence between Mexico and the US
A video camera in the Confessional Booth, raised Catholic, thats funny
Final scene the "Mexican Army" roles in driving low riders and choppers
So, if you like extra cheese with your movies, this one is aged cheddar. Shame on me for enjoying it so much.
Follow Ups:
...I had wanted to add it to my Netflix queue but had forgotten about.
Lawnmower Man was one of the all time worst films I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of bad ones.
What great casting.
I can't wait.
If this guy was at all clumsy, he mighta cut himself. :)
Not my kinda movie I think. Glad you enjoyed it.

Yea Grant this is not for everyone, it just really hit my funny bone. The B-movie taken to the next level. Back in the day this would have been part of a drive-in double feature. Schindler's List it is not, but it has this feel that they really had a good time shooting this movie.
Robert Rodriguez gets on his very low profile soap box, (height), and gives his $.02 on the immagration issue with humor. I would have loved to hear his pitch during the casting of this movie.
To each their own re movies, music, cars, how to decorate your house and all. That's what makes life so entertaining.
I wouldn't see half the movies mentioned here, and most definitely wouldn't share my opinion on movies. I'm one of few it seems that doesn't care for Tarantino or Coen Bros films for example; never seen one that I liked. Wouldn't catch me at a slasher film of any sort, horror movies, never seen a LOTR or Potter film. I don't like 3D and on... So take anything I say with a grain of salt. :)

I hear you Grant, my Dad always said "that's why they make Ford's and Chevy's", choice is the spice of life. I am also not a horror or slasher or devilish or Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings.... type of guy. Huge fraidy-cat, have never seen the Exorcist, still don't like the flying monkey's in the Wizard of Oz, I use to get scared changing channels if I had to turn it past Dark Shadows.
But, I am an old school 70's T&A, road, anti-hero movie kind-of guy. The gore of this film is waaay over the top, which I take with a grain of salt as part of the B-movie tradition.
I watched that piece of dung Clash of Titans just so I could hear Liam Neeson utter the phrase "Release the Krackin!", which still makes me laugh when I say it. I am telling you this to give you a little insight of my absurd movie tastes...
So it is all good. I have always enjoyed your posts/replies.
I also don't need or want to be scared by a movie. I watch movies to be entertained, pooping my pants is not entertaining to anyone! :)
I did see the Exorcist WAY back when, not my thing. Funny, I think my dad owned only either GM's or Fords, and I looked at your stat, you're about 6 months older than me. Also saw a music post of yours, quite a few similar tastes there. That and you like Maggie's, man, you have to be a good guy! :)
Haven't seen Clash of the Titans... not sure I will. ?
Good talking to you...

thanks man, good talking to you too
but I will see it. What amazes me is how Danny Trejo has parlayed a career in film. The first time I saw him was in "Heat" and he was very credible but I felt he was probably a flash in the pan. Kudos to pretty boy for making it this far.
Grits uber alles.
