This was one close up, intense movie. No sooner the film began than did the near non-stop action. The first reports coming in that the attackers were 'alien' was met with disbelief but their actions soon born that out. This is a spectacle similar to WotW or ID with BHD thrown in the mix but it was very close into the shite and quite a work out for the theater sound system. You may experience your startle reflex afterwards when a car backfires.
What I liked about these aliens is that weren't all issued 'death rays' or 'disintegrate' pistols--they seemed to be carrying ordinance very similar to our own stuff only faster and more powerful. These guys could be killed, it didn't take a cold germ to bring them down. (Spoiler) They came for our water not our oil.
Aaron Eckhardt did a good job as a retiring E-6 marine sergeant who was gun shy after losing too many men in Afghanistan. Sent out to rescue some civilians holed up at an abandoned police station the rescue mission soon turned to chaos and a desperate attempt to get clear of the bombing zone.
No matter how you feel about the subject matter this is the kind of film you have to go see. It's required of all guys. I presume the video game will be out next week. 8^)

...intense is a good description of it.
There are emotional moments to break the tension but I could have done with a lighter touch and maybe some humor.
But as a mindless escapist action-packed popcorn movie, I couldn't complain.
And Aaron Eckhardt does a pretty good job in the lead role.
...I saw it again. The opinions on this were and still are so diverse, I thought it might be just a way to spend 2 hours NOT thinking about taking amps apart to improve them. It's a very human story about a squad of Marines that is ordered to rescue some civilians stranded at an LA police station. I've never served in the military, but it seems very realistic to me. All cast members, headed by Aaron Eckart as the staff sargeant, Michelle Rodriguez as a technical sargeant, and Bridget Moynahan and Michael Pena as 2 civilians, are very good.
The aliens are every bit as specific as they need to be. I could have done with some steadier camera work.
Recommended.

realized. Eckhardt ain't no leading man, certainly not action. A ridiculous plot. The squad should have been wiped out within minutes of the bugs engaging them; every encounter, the bugs seemed to "forget" what had occurred even though they supposedly had a great command and control center. Speaking of which, isn't it great when an invading army's principal station is left guarded by a couple of soldiers? Tripe.
You want a decent story, great FX? Go see "War of the Worlds," again.
a small group is sent on a mission and figure out a key to disable the alien ships. There is some good closeup action. There is a big weepy scene in the middle. My only reservation is the stupid hand held camera is overused, at the beginning of the film especially, but by the end it did not matter.
Unbelievable? yes!
Do I care? No!
Fun? Hell yes!

District 9 is a frustrating movie, I hated the beginning (especially the hand held camera and the main protagonist) but enjoyed the second half.
Battle: Los Angeles is predictable but has good action and a few corny scenes. Bottom line is that I wanted an action film and it delivered.

...seriously instead of with humor.
Independence Day already covered most of this ground.
From the previews, it looks like a video game.
What's the point?
It has been the Hollywood line since Close Encounters. I was glad to see a friendly (I think) depiction of an alien in the upcoming comedy "Paul."
The mainstream depictions of alien beings is said to be carefully monitored and controlled.

If there is going to be an alien invasion and they have the ability to travel to other planets, I don't think any bullshit pro US military propaganda would boost morale enough to actually fight an alien invasion.
Fuck that film.
had all but wiped out everything....
