After Cheri and The Queen now a new Frears film, not as good as Miss Anderson Present nor High Fidelity, who was the one I very much like, I was curious would this one match to his better works?
How do you say? A mixed bag. A bit unusual more of a translation of a comic strip in its tempo and creation of characters.
Weak moments and some fun one. A film you have to say for yourself and very well the price of the admission.
And with English actors as usual over the top.
Follow Ups:
"Hi Fi" a tad disappointing (compared to the first two).
I think he's generally very uneven; when he's good, he's quite good, though.
The Grifters is a perfect (and perfectly nasty) neo noir. Prick Up Your Ears holds up very strongly.
Also noteworthy:
Sammie and Rosie Get Laid
The Van
Dirty Pretty Things
The Queen
My Beautiful Laundrette
I think High Fidelity is a lot of fun, quite well crafted, and spot on about a certain type of personality. The Queen has way more going on than at first one might suspect.
All in all, Frears is one of the best directors working today - IMO.
I LOVED and still do his Hi-Fidelity! And yes very uneven. But lately more UN than even..
But this last one has something...Schräg would be the german word.
