South Korean film from 2007 & best actress award at Cannes for an absolutely remarkable performance by Do-yeon Jeon.

The story's pretty simple: after losing her husband in a car accident, Shin-ae (Do-yeon Jeon) moves with her young son to the birthplace of her husband, a small town called Milyang (translated as secret sunshine).

Another loss happens and she's supported by the local christian group until she realizes that even God seems to have abandoned her.

Above all, check out Do-yeon Jeon's award winning role. Highly recommended.

  me too; I've been to South Korea several times + love the place ( + the food! ) "Mother" ( Madeo ) is a great film if you've not seen it

    that's not the case. There is plenty of excellent Korean comedy, much of it having that darkness I find so attractive.
Chang-dong Lee's film Oasis was very powerful and disturbing - PhilJ 09:52:47 06/14/11 (2)
and should not be missed (by those that can handle the truth of the human condition)
