Finally saw this yesterday afternoon.
What a gorgeous film! It seemed, in all fairness, to be light on the metaphors until the very end; the loud murmur of the crowd when the screen finally faded to black and the words *Directed by Terrence Malick* appeared gave me the biggest smile...
Some minor questions for those who have seen it:
- How does one of the brothers die
- Which brother does Sean Penn play
Follow Ups:

Penn plays the older brother. The middle brother who was palying guitar died in combat in Vietnam.
I was blown away by this movie and I'm going to go see it again today.
That's what I thought - the brother was 19 if I remember correctly. However, the Chastain and Pitt characters don't exhibit discernible aging (perhaps a comment on childhood memories),so it was confusing as to when they got the bad news of their son, as a child, as a man?
I'm with you - gonna let this one soak for a few days then give it another go.

As a makeup artist who knows the parties involved I would say it was a more practical problem. It bothered me as well.
I have to say now that I have seen it a second time it was actual far more linear than I remembered it being on the first viewing. I think I liked it even better the second time. There are many quick allusions and foreshadowings that play much better on a second viewing.
did it! What a memory!
