Steve Carell is told by Julianne Moore that she wants a divorce and that she had an affair. Steve goes to the bar where Ryan Gosling senses his distress and mentors him to be a ladies man. Steve and Julianne have to juggle their lives which includes children.
It sounds ordinary and starts a bit slow but builds to a consistently interesting movie which has some heartfelt laughs and a few good surprises and a very funny ending that wraps things up nicely. There is a terrific ensemble of supporting characters which includes Emma Stone and Marisa Tomei.
One thing I liked about this movie is the lack of the usual monotone dialogue with jokes thrown in every three minutes just for fun. This movie is a bit meatier and you begin to care about everyone.
I read a review which said this film is as good as Bridesmaids and Paris After Midnight, the story itself is nothing new but the execution is and every actor is very likeable - at least by me, and CSL holds its own nicely.

Follow Ups:
They could have cut at least a half an hour out of the film. Other than the slow pace, it had much to offer. My wife hated it.
the multiple stories flowed back and forth seamlessly....

My wife and I enjoyed it thoroughly ...and I am not a Carrell fan.
Great cast, well written, lots of fun.

Our best young actress. She's worth seeing in almost anything.
