Gosling is good as a Steve McQueen type and this is a decent thriller, but it is too dark and bloody for my tastes.
Another churned out Hollywood effort (too bad from the director of the Pusher series too) this is closer to Valhalla Rising in content.

Follow Ups:
what "primitive" survival meant. It was Homeric, in the true sense. It wasn't meant to be an FX-filled action film or a ridiculous action hero film that happened to occur in the faraway past. Nor was it a cutesy Malick-opera. It was gritty, ugly, and violent--- though it showed a humanism not unexpected in man. Not a great film, no, but certainly no "Avatar."
I never thought any of these things regarding Valhalla Rising...

and I stand by my assessment, Drive was less wordy and dialogue driven instead it was about survival.
