Chinese director Lu Chuan chronicles the fall of Nanking to the Japanese in 1937 with brutal, unflattering realism. Epic film making at its finest. Recommended. Available on DVD.
Follow Ups:
unsatisfying, a little trite. The characters were weak. Damn fine entertainment, however, and far beyond the US current big-budget stuff. FX wasn't noticeable, for one thing, and there actually was a story line.
and was not disappointed.

Where the zombie SS troops from hell dropped in to do their daily extermination. Great job on showing their insanity and PTSD cup overflowing. Oh yeah, the kid was pretty fritzed out by that time also.
