good actors who had NO scenes of any length, i.e. Ciaran Hinds, Colin Firth. They obviously were cast for their names and reps, a very strange ploy.
This is a bloodless film, artistically and emotionally, and that's not good in a spy genre effort. It has little in the way of suspense, little to interest the viewer in solving the puzzle of the mole's identity. A young, hitherto unknown hunky actor has long scenes that haven't much to do in furthering the plot; is he involved with someone or is he a studio "push?"
Still, it's worth the visit to a theater; it won't insult your intelligence and there are NO Fx, chases, or fights.

This is the one for you. There are so many high caliber Brit cast members you would actually feel guilty dozing off as tempting as it is.
Oldman has been predicted for honors but I don't see it when it's based on low-key pondering and wrinkling of brow. Everything is quite Cricket and no reason to cause fuss or muss in getting to the bottom of who the mole is.
Good luck to those who persist in following the dialog to some kind of meaningful ending.

...about reading Le Carre's books.
Couldn't quite get into them and I love a good mystery.
Well done, chaps. If you had liked the movie, your repartee wouldn't have been half as funny. I might have a look when it hits cable. My movie to see this week is Girl with the . . but, I confess to being usually pessimistic about big budget remakes.
...I liked the big budget remake better.
Good. Maybe I will, too.
Rolling Stone calls the dialog "master class in film artistry".
I call it boring.
To quote Neil Young "...it starts off really slow and then it fizzles out altogether".
And what is with the raves for Oldman's performance? He spends half the movie with a blank look on his face. I've never seen someone get so much screen time and say so little.
Even if you enjoy minimalist, period films shot in predominantly near sepia tones and dimly lit ...you'd better fill up on caffeine first and bring some sort of widget to hold your eyes open.
This fellow was a few rows in front of me.

I particularly like "the Reptile Fund". Now that is good. I wonder if anyone here would notice a line item such as that during hearings?

Don't mean to thread crap but just watched the first 4 epis last night on PBS and they're fresh in me mind. Worth a view or a stream. As for TTSP, looks like a rental in 6 moths to me.
Google Gordon Keith Zach Galifinakis for a REALLY awkward interview!

waste of so many very good actors.
Agree with Oldman. Expected him to go apeshit at any moment or start licking his lips, a la Dracula. The only thing missing in this film was some slow homosexual love in the British way, perhaps with some of the "la vise Anglaise" thrown in as foreplay.
