typical teen slasher that is so much more.
This movie does not take itself seriously, it is all tongue in cheek good fun which builds as it goes along.
Not too scary just a silly good time.

Based on various reviews and the positive posts here my wife and I saw it today. IT SUCKED! :-)

Unbelievable that I read comparisons to Evil Dead 2. Not that funny, not scary, and an interesting story stupidly told via force feeding. The allegory that might indicate the film is about the horror film industry and the gods are the audience makes it a very nice idea but...the film just wasn't very good. What a shame.

Makeup. Primary focus on this one, the Buckner family.
Thought the Buckner girl looked great.
It was great to have a director that understood the advantages of doing as much as possible with good old fashioned makeup effects. Granted I am biased but I thought the stuff we did outclassed the CGI monsters by a country mile. Wish more of our stuff made the final cut though. We did almost every monster you could think of.
in the end makeup makes for more compelling scene because there is one less component in the way (CGI) of a great scene.
walking dead I've seen this side of the "tar babies" in Return of the Living Dead..

Nice movie in the style of Evil Dead II in the horror/humor mode and also in the Whedon universe with some actors you will recall and moments of pure fun such as a speaker phone. Also could be looked as an allegory for Hollywood industry as the director/writers definitely bite the hand that feeds them.

the previews never hinted what it was really about and never showed Bradley Whitford or Richard Jenkins...which is a huge lift to such genre's typical casting.
I enjoyed it but felt hesitant about recommending it since it is pure yucks.

at least I think it is good - for what it is
and it helps if you are Anna Hutchison (aka the slut) fan...
I wasn't inferring it shouldn't be seen but this crowd here can find ways to hate something easily.
