Anyone have no life and saw the midnight viewing? I'll probably catch it next weekend.
We'll have to agree to disagree about global warming until the next global cooling scare comes along
Follow Ups:
This movie represents the worst of modern blockbuster filmmaking. I almost nodded off a couple times, despite the mind-numbing, pointless and relentless animated violence and way-too-loud theater.
I almost walked out a couple times as well, but I made it and endured to the end. Why do I bother giving this crap a try?
Character development: F
Story: F
Script: F
Did any of you actually give 2 craps about any of the characters?
If you don't like big action movies, don't see them and don't complain about them.
As to your claim that this was the "worst" of modern blockbuster movies, you must have not seen very many. I can make a long list of blockbuster movies with worse action, characters and character development than this movie. The Avengers already had solo movies out with the backstories of most of these characters so it wasn't going to repeat that angle. As to "character development" it was more about how these characters were going to be able to function as a group with the problems of themselves, each other, the government and the machinations of Loki. Additionally, this movie had much sharper dialog and funny moments than you usually see in these "blockbusters."
I enjoyed the Spiderman movies and the first Ironman movie. I'd give the first Ironman 4 stars, but didn't think much of the second Ironman.
The liberal use of CGI is very tedious.
Saw it today on Imax 3D, and once again the "convergence/focus" problem bothers me more each time I view 3D, not less.I am done with 3D movies, and next blockbuster, I will watch it in good old 2D Imax. At link is a good article on why 3D movies annoy so many of us.

...in 3D - XD, but not IMAX.
One of the best comic superhero movies ever.
Great fun, especially with the heroes fighting each other.
Those long snail-like robots with the teeth/mouth look like the same evil demon CGI ships from the Battleship previews.
Guess CGI alien ships aren't as creative as they used to be.
Avengers hould be the biggest movie of the summer and school isn't even out yet.
Highly recommended.
Audience exploded after that one. I loved the wit and comedy. The whole work was a terrific way to beat the heat.

.
not too much mindless action (ala Transformers).
Tom Hiddleston makes for a good bad guy
Overall the story is good thanks to Joss Wheden
better than most CGI action films (if not all) and recommended
Pretty much second your review. It is was it is -- superhero action movie. But Whedon was able to tweak it enough to make me very happy, please the crowds and give the material its due.
glad you liked it
I'm eyeing my local Imax 3D theatre that's playing it. Should make it next week on a matinee some time..
Great co-writing and direction from Joss Whedon (formerly the driving force behind the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly and it's major film sequel to Firefy, Serenity)Every actor was given room to develop their characters and the performances were all stellar. One of the best if not the best super-hero fims done to date. It's still very much a popcorn flick, but the dialogue is so crisp and the pacing so perfect that you won't care that lofty ambitions are eschewed so that film that can build on internal character conflict. The beauty of the Avengers is that it is very much a character driven movie. These heroes just don't get along from the get-go, but they manage to overcome their Alpha personalities when crisis pulls them together.
Heck, I bet even ol' Victor would like it!
Minor caveats notwithstanding, The Avengers gets my highest recommendation. Four and one-haf stars ... **** 1/2
Thumbs up from the Jack Horner Pub in London...

You've been living well, AuPh. There's more of you than I remember! I agree with you totally on Avengers. Oddly, it was my wife who suggested that we see the film (not in 3D) -- those things are usually not in her zone of interest.
I can't say that I've seen all of the films of this type, but this was, as you say, a good popcorn flick.

DNS check says Billy Bob's, Ft Worth.

Does your local picture show even have CinemaScope aspect ratio yet??? Inquiring minds want to know! ;^>
Oy! Things must be more upscale at Billy Bob's if they're serving Fuller's ESB on tap there now. (Attribution: Jack Horner Pub at Tottenham Court Square, enjoying a pint before last Wednesday afternoon's showing of the Avengers, across the street at the Odeon).
Cheers,
AuPh
even though it was in B&W with piano player and subtitles.

Not even 'Marigold' showed up.

...the Avengers this weekend.
In a review, Marigold was described as "Eat, Pray, Die".
