SPOILER ALERT!!!!! !!He walks into Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's office and tells them he wants them to get him a job doing improv. What follows is 5 minutes of the most hilariously non funny standup routine in history. That 5 minutes was almost as funny as Johnny Depp's visit to their office, with Gervais' Globe emceeing putdowns fresh on Depp's mind.
*** (fuck the critics), check it out.

cheered for Tim Roth's character, one of the greatest villains in modern filmdom, so multi-dimensional. John Hurt and Brian Cox also were spectacular. Jessica Lange, as usual, was horrible. How so many critics, at one point, considered her our greatest film actress I'll never know.
about that particular time in their history. Will see.

be cruel, but I think Lange is the Madonna of film: she married exciting guys and used them to her best career advantage. Baryshnikov and Sam Shepard were Hollywood icons, to the artsy-crowd, and she hand-picked art-film roles. However, I always thought her acting appeared too heavy-handed, never a surprise--- unlike her contemporaries Streep, Winger, or Clayburgh (I'm partial to Jill because she was a dead-ringer for an ex-fiancee....) who brought excitement, suspense, and truth.
if she has truly been hailed as one of our great actresses I'd tend to agree, and re-reading yer original post, that seems to be what you imply. But, what a great run she had at the beginning of her career eh?

I have a nasty secret: if an actress doesn't appeal to me, I just can't appreciate her much, especially in romantic roles. I'm not alone, before you hammer me. If looks were inconsequential for dramatic actresses, the long history of beauty wouldn't be.
Somea actresses can overcome their "look" with pure force of acting will, but yea, I got a thing about an actresses look as well. Altho I happen to like the younger Jessica Lange look. She was smokin the screen up in Kong and Postman. The Grey Gardens look? Not so much.

Dick and Jane" (she was good at comedy, too), "Julia," "9 to 5," "On Golden Pond,""Agnes of God."
Not a bad group....
Forgot to mention Susan Sarandon in the group of very good actresses from this country, though I never liked her much.
One of the great campy, trippy as shit, B movies of the late 60s. I'd seriuosly like to catch it again, it's been 20 years since the last viewing.
Far better than her brother's The Trip.
Yes, Sarandon has done some great acting. Her world weary performance in T&L was awesome. Thought she was hot til about 10 years ago, then, something happened.......
