Maybe I have been blind, or maybe it is just me, but lately, while watching some more or less recent films, I noticed something new and obnoxious.
There seem to be a grotesque, in-you-face liberal message in some of them. More grotesque than ever before.
They would take an atypical situation, and turn it around, blow up thousand times, and present as something you should be very afraid of, as you walk home from your car.
Case in point... there is, apparently, an open season on abortion doctors.
There is a conspiracy by... you guessed it! - some Bible-reading nuts.
That killer-nut is on his nutty serial killing spree, and only the vigilance of our brave authorities stops him.
Idiotic? Wait... there's more to it. There is a web site, with the list of abortionists, with their addresses, the so-called Kill List, with the freshly killed names crossed out.
Yep... your typical day in your typical American town...
This is just one recent example, I saw several such gems just in last few weeks.
This is the sort of horseshit they push down our throats.
I stopped sending my money to these morons long time ago. I am happy to admit I was right.
Follow Ups:
"unusual" angle to depict the Holocaust horrors.
And what of all the violence? Even though much of it seemingly is in service to show crime doesn't pay, by creating excitement around it, violent crime is romanticized.
Films on Holocaust I put into a different bin - where things like films about love and betrayal, films on war, reside - timeless themes.
I generally dislike violent films - we all know why there are so many of them. I am currently watching the second season of The Killing, and feel it is cruder, and more gruesome than the first one, for no obvious good reason.

In general I am not too fond of the American films on Russia, and Russian films on America... :)
![]()
but I only recalled the general plot line enough to look up the title by searching; Female Russian prison guard WWII.. so I suppose that makes it forgettable as I surmise you'd have expected. If you're hard up for netflix fodder though it shouldn't leave you too upset you rented it.

On a related note, a column with the above title appeared in the Wall Street Journal last month, authored by Douglas MacKinnon.
His point: cheap shots and degrading humor directed at Republicans and conservatives are de rigueur in recent movies. He also notes the hypocrisy of a prez that condemns the rich 1% while buddying with the richest 0.1% in hollywood.
I know he'll be looking for ways to help me, I just know it... .00001%
You're welcome.

You only watch foreign films so why do you care?
-Wendell
That means the film is pro-choice, and he's upset.

If you want I will post links to the facts...but knowing how unlikely it is that you will let the truth get in the way of your ideology I doubt you will ask for proof.

...horribly boring.

They lure you in promising entertainment, but then they give you LIBERAL LOONEY TUNES PROPAGANDA.
Oh yeah. All the time.
Hollywood has a death wish. Michael Medved wrote a book about this twenty years ago called 'Hollywood Vs. America'. It's still valid today.

I'd like to see them so I can really comprehend the message.

Avatar was the worst in recent memory. There is lots of crap out there. But occasionally, Hollywood breaks free. The Dark Knight was one example.Hollywood loves its Michael Moores and Oliver Stones.

If we could identiy a common feature, maybe we could install some sort of filter to keep those dirty rascals out.

...it's called good judgement.

The series I mentioned start like your average normal crime one, and not bad either... but then, out of blue, that piece of crap comes.

... is mostly for entertainment. They ain't real. Walmart takes care of the message. That's for real.
Sounds like you are just good at picking bad movies. Hee hee.
J
How many movies can you name that 'promote' abortion or show it not having a significant impact on the people involved?
Perhaps Vera Drake or Cider House Rules could be labeled "pro choice," but the overwhelming majority of films treat abortion as a very "negative" event.
Hell, even the teen horror genre is tough - if you see two teens having sex, you know who the serial killers is gunning for next!
;D

....I never forget that it's a movie.
J
...the messages like that are put in there, if it is just a movie?
We all know where the majority of people gets their "information".

it's "just" a movie. I said I never forget that it "is" a movie.
Of course movies have messages. Everywhere we turn there is someone or something vying for our attention with a purpose in mind. Culture at large, in all it's elements, is in constant process of influence.
It is your responsibility and mine to decide what to pay attention to and to decide what to accept or reject. That's life, not only movies. Hollywood film has political and social messages. So what.
I watch a movie a day on average. I think I have a keen sense of what I want to see and what not to see. 9 out of 10 times I enjoy what I choose and take it for what it is.
I don't let someone else tell me how or what to think. I say, rather, hmmm, so that's what the other feller thinks.
You and Grits should commiserate. He takes great pride in his acumen for choosing and watching bad film.
Aren't you doing the same thing you're complaining about? Messaging your contempt for "liberal" film. Your message or theirs, gotta talk about something.
Cheers,
J
My room fan, or hurricane Katrina - same thing! :)

Hollywood's mission is to make money by selling tickets.
Why do you hate corporate profit?
