'Money Ball': Late to the game . . .

Just saw this and, as a non-sports guy, found it compelling. A really solid film with Brad being born to play Bubba and Jonah the perpetual geek/egghead. Hoffman showed what a commanding presence he can generate as the A's frustrated manager. This is the Greek drama of baseball with its ups and downs ushering in the new age of data analysis and the further reduction of players to cattle.

... the equating of players to $$ and livestock. Which in turn has led to the megasalaries, free agencies, etc. No more loyalties. This was the start of it all. The days of Al Kaline were over (with the standout exception of Cal Ripken Jr).

I used to hate Pitt as a just a pretty boy, but the man has talents. I enjoy the nuance he brings to his characters.
