Haven't seen it, but an early review of this new non-Damon/non-Bourne sequel didn't get the love. The new guy is contemporary with Bourne, who presumably is still out there. The reviewer for the San Fran Chronicle said that the story line goes over peoples' heads. He didn't get it.
Damon has said that he won't do any more of these unless Paul Greengrass directs; he directed the 2nd and 3rd movies. I guess he meant it, so we get the new guy.
I'm going to see it anyway. Rachel Weisz is in it. Hubba hubba. Also Ed Norton. No hubbas for him, but I think he's pretty good. The new guy? Who knows ... ?
Follow Ups:
...running FROM the evil Treadstone executives, and Rachel Weisz was PERFECT as a scientist on the run with Renner--and I almost didn't recognise her she's so slim and gorgeous.
I'm SO happy director Greengrass and cinematografer Oliver Wood, of movies 2 and 3, are nowhere to be found in this one--their shaky-cam and peekaboo-cam work drove me nuts.

...though this movie could have stood alone without the Bourne background with just a bit more background development. In fact, the Bourne background sequences did not help clear up what was going on very well at all.
Otherwise, I thought the story, character development and most importantly, action sequences were pretty good. My only quibble was the last chase scene was a bit much and took too long.
...in Mick Lasalle's review in the SF Chronicle, "this is the death rattle of the Bourne trilogy."
Also according to him - little or no action till the last half hour.
A story that makes little sense and characters saying things that require you to remember all of the previous 3 films to understand.
Think I'll wait for it on video.

...the critics were right - you were wrong. It was the weakest of the 4 by far.
Slow, not very interesting, car chase at the end.

New Bourne - the worst spy film ever.

...I could take the wordS of both reviewers in the 2 newspapers I read who agree it's a very mediocre film, or I could take your word.
Which shall it be?

Daddy!
There was a real story there...one that built on itself throughout the film. Jeremy and Rachael become fully developed characters that interacted in a meaningful way. The non-stop chasing and whack-a-mole was put on hold and the violence used in a more "meaningful" way. The obligatory motor vehicle chase was held to last.
As far as I am concerned let Damon slide off into the distance. Even though they mentioned his name often and showed his picture....who cares? Renner has stepped in and shown a more human side to the series.
One thing, all this hub-bub about Treadstone as if the world would stop and America convulse at even knowing the CIA was training super killers! So what else is new? We expect our spy agency to train killers just like the WH does theirs.

The film was thoughtful; it's obvious few guys here want to think at the movies. I mean, we're not talking "Prometheus," the meaning of life-type cogitation. If you didn't care to follow the convolutions of the agencies, you could just go with the good vs bad that was easily understood. The action scenes were good, including the first sequence in the woods with the thick-as-a-sequoia tension.
Seeing a drone close-up and working was a gas.

2 & 3 were awful.
But they gave Matt Damon an opportunity to get on his 'America is evil' soapbox, so he liked them.
