Debating over even starting it knowing I will see some mystifying, pointless, lack of action or meaningful dialog opening scene lasting a horrific 10 to 20 minutes.

What should I do?

I don't know which film you have in your queue, but I feel the best way to introduce someone to that strange but powerful director might be The Man From London.

    "Werckmeister Harmonies," or," Damnation," first.
    Hell, even "Satantango" would be a better bet, though it's seven hours.
    One thing about it: it features the greatest speech ever recorded on film. Absolutely mesmerizing speech from the character, Irimias, on (I think) the third cd.
