Still some good detail and great color. I don't think they could have done much better. The British put the film on disc 2 and the extras on disc 1. That's whacky. They sure did ship it fast, though. It takes longer for a domestic order to arrive.

But of course it is a copy, not an official tape.

'Ben-Hur' in 2.76:1 looks spectacular.
I sit 10-1/2 feet from the 96"-wide screen which subtends a 42-degree viewing angle. I have an Epson 8700UB projector, and it's easy to adjust image size and placement.

...though a tad expensive. I'd probably prefer the 90" plasma as well but than again, I would not be able to afford the house to put it in.

90" plasma is the only way worthy of a manly man.
How would you rate a plasma against an equiv crt? (yes, I know crt's are dead, but I'm hanging on to mine).

Some later HD models produced wonderful images, but personally I still prefer the plasma.

But there is no projector out there that rivals good plasma, even in a TOTALLY dark room.

Heck, you can't even buy a decent gun for that money...

If you search for Robert Harris's posts over at Home Theater Forum you'll find out lots of info about the restoration. The "pulsing" is warping of the original negative due to the desert heat. They did some slight reduction for the Blu-ray.

Do you know what causes the pulsing? I've asked before and nobody knew.
There was a scene from LoA on one of the first blurays I got in '07 in the midst of a mishmash of other scenes promotional of the format. I know exactly what you mean because those few moments were incredible to watch. About one more month to wait for us in the states. Did anyone preorder this? For all the whining done about the price of the four-disc set, the 2-disc version is down to $19.

I decided to follow your lead as I've waited long enough for this. Funny how amazon.uk doesn't have a cart but a basket and the order hasn't been shipped but rather dispatched. Crazy Brits.
