This film was done by a director who I believe is one of the 4 best: Kubrick, Spielberg, Hitchcock, Polanski. I just saw it and think that it's lack of nomination for best directing and script Oscars show that the Oscars are corrupt.
I recommend it as a great work of art with some great actors.
Follow Ups:
I felt it was forced and pretentious with over the top performance by everyone but John C Reilly. I wanted my 90 minutes back.

I finally saw Repulsion last night. I thought that it was well done, but slow (listening to part of the 1994 commentary on the BD, it seems that Roman agrees).
I have never been able to get into or through Chinatown. I will have to try that one again one day. Kind of like I have never gotten into Barry Lyndon even though I like most of Kubrick's other work.

the flow after awhile, too.
Portuguese is very different from most languages, aurally, except Yiddish. Especially w/Portuguese spoken in my part of Brazil, Rio. I had an Israeli (really!) friend who was married to a Brazilian woman: he said he picked up Portuguese very easily, at least the accent part.
Now, how was it.... after the viewing? :-)

***4 best: Kubrick, Spielberg, Hitchcock, Polanski.
Yep... something has always been telling me that Fellini fella was an over-rated second-rate guy.

All far below Spielberg, apparently.
David Lean joins Carol Reed and Chaplin in genuflecting to Hitch.
Ford, Huston, Ray, Welles, Wyler, Altman, Griffith---- all kneel to Kubrick.
Goodbye to France, Germany, Russia, Brazil, Hungary, Japan, and China.
Nothing to see from there...
Funny thing... them personal preferences.
