Spielberg supervised the audio restoration of the film from the 35 mm film original negative. Should be a powerful experience in lossless, high definition not to mention the 1080p picture.

We'll have to agree to disagree about global warming until the next global cooling scare comes along
But the final scene in Toy Story III also was unbearable in a good way.

Pixar films have exactly their intended effect on my wife and me...we sit there with tears streaming down our faces. Unfortunately, the only time I tried to make my wife sit through SL she fell asleep.

A pox on his family and 100 years of bad luck for the inventor of "Intelligent Touchpads" for laptops!!!

It is 4K time outside... come and play!
I wonder what all you BR guys will be doing with your collection next year? Hiding away in the closet, next to your 8-track tapes?

If our goal is to ship as much shit and garbage as possible to the end user, we will always find ways of doing it!

I'm hardly talking about shit and garbage. What is the point of HD anything if the medium doesn't provide adequate quality? Very few areas of the US have access to HD streaming, and most people can tell the difference.
The old fashioned BR disk is going to have to be around until HD streaming becomes available to the masses. And that's probably a long way off.
Jesus, can't pull anyone's leg anymore without sending him to a psychiatric ward!
The serious point, however, is that the tech progress tends to be faster than most of us are able to predict.

While you were wondering what we are going to do with out antiquated Blu-ray next year, we've been enjoying true HD move experience for the past 5 years. Enjoy holding your breath for a better picture quality while watching compressed pseudo HD from Netflix and cable.

...other than the TV manufacturer's demo DVDs?
Most cable companies don't want to waste the bandwith to transmit programs in HD, much less something like 4K.
Blu-Ray is as good as it gets today.
Sharp or someone demonstrated 8K at CES.
Dream on.

Years ago this was a popular wisdom, but look at the number of HD channels today, it is growing steadily. The companies realize people will always switch to something with better picture, if available.
I am, of course, just teasing the BR guys, but in reality the 4K is today where BR was years ago.

I thought you were way ahead of me on the curve! :)

they'll have to pry the remote for the Kuro out of my cold, dead fingers.
It still gets "oohs and ahs" from visitors.
G-d knows how old it is, we got it back when it just appeared... it is way outlived its expected service life, and still going strong.
Only one issue - since it spends probably 80% of its time on Fox News channel, its logo is now burnt in, visible on light background. Plus there is ONE dead pixel.
Amazingly, it still produces wonderful picture with right material.
I prefer to spend my gadget money on fancy guns. I think I have done my share of being an early adopter of video toys.

There is nothing better I've seen, except certain projector systems which are not practical for me. Better get all the guns you can before Obama tries to round up gun owners and shoot them.

Their work is available on Internet, so I suspect when ours croaks, we will get a 60" smart one, and at that time I will replace the player too - so I too might become a BR junkie at that point! :)

I actually think the Hungarians are joyful people, I lived among them in the part occupied by the USSR, and were they also the first ones to give finger to Moscow, with their capitalistic reforms.
They also make great Tokay... :)

expecting to see nothing but slatterns held up by overweight men in food-slathered clothing, reeking of cheap brandy, and stumbling about with perpetual scowls.
Tokaj? I've loved it since college when it was mentioned in a Balzac novel.

I think I was the only guy at the CES without a smart phone.
Books? My wife... THE quintessential book worm, now is reading on her iPad. Sitting in her library, with thousands of books on the shelf, she is now downloading... and happy!

I'm sure we're all headed toward an existence where our libraries and brains are replaced by the cloud, but I will try to hang on to the old ways for a few more years. You are way ahead of me in streaming and netflixing. I do have a smartphone, but it's more to service my little princess who turns 1 yr old in a couple weeks!

At the next table there was a group of three young people, sharing a meal.
They hardly spoke to each other, hardly took their eyes off the screens in their hands... sometimes they let the others see something on theirs.
Complete degradation of human race. So glad you consider me advanced in something - because sometimes I scare myself with my backwardness!

A serious problem that needs to be solved before further generations turn antisocial.

I see people who look like mature adults totally absorbed into their devices. I go to places like shooting clubs, where part of fun used to be socializing... now you see more and more guys sitting along, typing...
