admit that I can't find a lot to fault: yes, it's melodrama, but it has a terrific set of characters and there are enough subplots to keep you interested, but not confused.
The level of acting is just plain excellent: why can't we produce male actors that don't all look like wimps? Or women that can speak the language w/out slurring in monotones?
How refreshing that the English acting traditions continue. Ours, alas, perished w/the great generation of actors now mostly in their sixties.
Anyhow, is it Sunday, yet?
Follow Ups:
I have already written that I consider this easily the dumbest show around - since I stopped watching red neck belly flops some time ago!I think the writing is done by a bunch of illiterate drug pushers in minimum security jail - it is so pathetic words are powerless.
Little wonder the main male lead apparently had enough with that excuse for acting and left the show - his conscience finally spoke loudly enough.
I would much rather just watch Gosford Part and be done with the theme for few more years.

I can understand someone not liking it, but "easily the dumbest show around?" Maybe I don't understand what you mean by "dumbest," but in my view there are plenty of much dumber shows. Have you seen Honey Boo Boo? Do you maybe not get too many channels?
OK, OK, so the dumbest show *I* recall seeing in the long time! :)
Will look up Honey Boo Boo on Demand, I am sure it is there. I was stunned, actually, at the number of shows there, as I was searching once for something. I have never heard of probably 98% of them, under my rock.
Who, on Earth, watches all that crap?

Gosford Park put me to sleep... ( OK, maybe my fault! )
Maggie Smith's line about how Shirley MacClaine's ( Sp?) Character made her appreciate all things British. "But, she's an American." Maggie: Exactly!
The Writer distiles so much fact and emotion in each scene, it's just amazing to me.
My only possible complaint is that it's Too Perfect, but I'm lovin' it.
Both my wife and I groaned at the end of Sunday's Episode, Oh, is it over Already???!!!
...and go back to Tarr, appreciated by a few illuminati.Hold that Budweiser, Pinot Noir, here I come!
