In fact, it sucked when it was first released, but I thought maybe it was me at that time.
It wasn't.
Satire can be so over the top as to be unwatchable.
Peter looks like he died before shooting began; his alcohol-toxicity colored his flesh to a deathly gray/brown. He indeed appeared highly intoxicated (not script-driven) during the performance. We bailed after 20 painful minutes.
The "Lawrence of Arabia" genius died long before this was made, obviously...
