Walken is the only guy in Hollywood that has made every roll into himself and he was a joy to watch this time around. This film is a testament to the parts being greater than the whole.

Actually, I can't think of any American actor, at the moment, that doesn't play himself, first. This excludes some character actors.

I liked the fact that it fooled the audience into thinking it was a story about a fictional bunch of killers when in fact, it wasn't. And then, the desert coda was a blast out of the blue: a terrific segue into an art house rumination on violence, the meaning of life, and just the calm of the desert.
I think some people couldn't handle the attempt at a more serious film. They wanted more Rambo, less existentialism.
I'd disagree on Walken; sure, he's himself, but the character had a lot of interesting facets.
